IN FONDEST MEMORY

ARCHIE COWAN (d.1978)

We have only recently heard of the death a few months ago, in his 96th year, of Archie Cowan, who will be remembered by long standing members as The Questors first House Manager. In the old theatre days Archie was always there on duty at every show for 13 years until he retired in 1958. His great service to the Club was recognised by his appointment as an Honorary Life Member on his retirement.

Archie did much for the Club: it was he who first managed to get us a 'catering licence' — a difficult thing to achieve in those days of rationing! And it was through him that we got the introduction to Guinness which resulted in a mortgage on the old theatre, without which we would not have been able to complete the purchase of the property.

Archie's genial presence as he welcomed the audience through the doors is what those of us who knew him will always remember with particular affection.
