Jennifer Samuels died 10th Augusl 1995 after a long illness. One of my earliest on-stage experiences at The Questors was being in The Winter's Tale in which Jennifer Tudor (as Jennifer Samuels was known professionally) was playing Pauline. Each night waited in the wings listening while Jennifer gave her beautifully dignified and inspiring rendering of the closing moments of the play. All her professional experience with both the RSC and the National Theatre came into play and it was a joy to listen to. Having forsaken the professional stage to become a librarian, Jennifer continued with the great love of her life, acting, in an amateur capacity. A very private person, she brought to her craft great dedication leavened
with a wry sense of humour. She will be missed greatly, not only by The Questors,
but by those other companies she graced with her presence. Brave to the last, and
hating any kind of fuss, I am sure she would approve this final quotation:
'What's gone and what's past help should be past grief." (Paulina: A Winter's Tale.) Peter Knight
