IN FONDEST MEMORY

LIONEL (HARRY) LOCKE (d.1984)

Veteran Questors will be sad to know of the death recently of the stage, screen and radio actor Harry Locke. Harry was one of the earliest acting members of The Questors when he was known to us as Lionel Locke. Among his notable performances were those of Macbeth (1938) and The Man in Noah(1939), while he also designed sets and wrote one-act plays for us. He then had a long and varied professional career beginning with Birmingham Rep, where he played Tony Lumpkin and ending
with The Mermaid Theatre where he played the lead in Lock Up Your Daughters.

He acted on The Halls and in countless films, as well as in a famous Radio series known as On the Top of The Bus. He was a most generous and warm-hearted man who helped The Questors in many ways, particularly as a guest artist in several of our fund-raising Variety Concerts, and he never forgot his debt to The Questors in encouraging his early theatrical ambitions.
