IN FOND MEMORY

GRAHAM EVANS (d. 2025)

I received today the very sad news that Graham Evans died, after a long illness, on Saturday 27th September. Initially, he was cared for at Eastbourne Hospital, then transferred to St Leonard's Hospice for his last few days.

Graham was a member of Student Group 11 along with Helen Blatch, Dorothy Boyd-Taylor (now Barber), Jo Rowbottom and Sandra Turner (now Healy).

Apart from acting in Questors productions he also became a stalwart of the Sound Dept. A quick search of the archives illustrates just how essential he was to the staffing of many plays during his time there.

Eventually Graham and his long-time partner David Evans (another stalwart of Questors) moved away and began a much-travelled lifestyle. I remember receiving letters from them from all over Spain, America, U.K., even living for a time on the Cote d'Azur. When the time came to stop their globe-trotting they retired to their bolt-hole at St Leonards-on-Sea, Sussex and found time always to attend Tin Hutters' reunions.

After David's death a number of years ago, Maggie and I visited Graham in his flat in St Leonards. He seemed very happy and settled and was a loyal and active member of the Hastings Music Festivals, where each year he would sit with the solo pianists and turn the pages of the score being played.

An accomplished, good, gentle man. Quick to laugh, happy to help. Although in recent years my contact with him was limited, I will miss him. His niece and nephew, Jane and Richard Burgess, saw him on his last morning. He was at rest and in no pain. The care he received at both the Hospital and the Hospice was excellent.
