LATE NIGHT PERFORMANCE The Questors Studio
June 1993
Directed by Paul Ashby
Behind the closed curtains of a dingy, dusty London flat a middle-aged brother and sister are trapped, perhaps by more than just their shared memories, fears and illusions.
Truth and fantasy intertwine as they review their past lives and present predicament. Is Father really dead? Are the whole family about to descend on them for Father's birthday party? Does the world outside still exist, or have "They" taken over completely? Are, as the sister insists, the only ones left "Just Us"?
Michael Law's new play uses powerful, poetic language to evoke a claustrophobic, airless atmosphere of decay, timelessness and mania. Its ambiguity and power are reminiscent of Pinter at his best.
