In 1985 The Questors Theatre was honoured with an invitation from the YOKOHAMA THEATRE INSTITUTE OF JAPAN to participate in a Festival of Amateur Theatre. Our ten-strong touring company presented BLACK COMEDY. This was the first festival of its kind in the Kanagawa Prefecture of Tokyo, and involved amateur companies from Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Northern Ireland, the USA and West Germany, as well as two Japanese companies.
Black Comedy was chosen as the Questors' contribution because, quite apart from being an outstanding example of contemporary English theatre, the play has a strong visual impact, clearly an advantage in overcoming the language barrier.
