IN FONDEST MEMORY

STEPHEN JOSEPH (d.1967)

The theatre has suffered a great loss and The Questors have lost a very good friend by the untimely death of Stephen Joseph.

Our first real contact with Stephen was when he did a stimulating production for us of A Jig for the Gipsy in 1954, the first of the season of new plays with which we celebrated our 21st birthday. This was about the time when he was planning his Studio Theatre Club which pioneered theatre-in-the-round in London. Later, when he was established at the Library Theatre at Scarborough, he several times brought his company to play in the Stanislavsky Room.

His enthusiasm and vitality were outstanding. He was one of those rare people who are prepared to give everything they have for a cause they believe in.
