IN FOND MEMORY

ROBERT ATKINS (d.1972)

Robert Atkins, C,B.E., actor, director, theatrical manager, who died recently [1972] at the age of 85, was the first President of The Questors before the first theatre opened in 1933.
A very distinguished man of the theatre — his record in Who's Who in the Theatre occupies fully four columns — he is, I believe, one of the only two directors (the other was Nugent Monck of the Maddermarket Theatre, Norwich) who could claim to have produced every play in the Shakespeare canon. At one time we had quite serious talks of a production of Lear, with a Questors amateur cast and Robert Atkins in the name part, but that was not carried very far. We remember with affection his very genuine interest in our early struggles.
