There may be a some members who knew or remember John Anderson who was chairman of the South London Theatre (SLT) for 18 years. Sadly he died on Sunday 20 August [2006] after a period in hospital.
After his retirement as chairman, he became SLT's Honorary Life President, a post he fulfilled with dignity and enthusiasm. He also served as Chairman of the Little Theatre Guild in 1995 and 1996 and in the latter year presided over the Golden Jubilee Conference at Leeds University when The Questors staged highlights from Scorched.
The funeral service was held at the South London Crematorium and was attended by many of his friends from the world of amateur theatre. His daughter Eugene read a lovely poem she had composed about her father and the minister read a heartfelt piece from his son Nik which recalled many happy memories.
John was a real character who was kind and generous but also acerbic and honest with a dry sense of humour. He directed and acted throughout his life and gathered many excellent reviews. He will be sadly missed.
