QUESTSTORIES
THE QUESTORS NEW PLAYS FESTIVALS
1960-1977
From the very beginning The Questors have championed new writing and in 1941 produced their first full length new play, ICARUS PRESERVED, written by Questors member Michael Kelly.
A more formal recognition of this facet of the company's work came in 1960 when the first of 18 annual New Plays Festivals was held in the old theatre (the "tin hut"). Each year, three or more full-length new plays were presented in repertoire for a week.
Most notable among the writers featured in the Festivals were James Saunders, Dannie Abse and David Mowat, but amongst the more than sixty plays premiered there were many more which went on to have a life beyond The Questors.
